Hollywood Lakes is the historic heart of east Hollywood in 33019, laid out in the 1920s around North and South Lake and bounded by the Intracoastal to the east. Broad streets, banyans and royal palms, and a housing stock that runs from restored 1920s Mediterranean homes to substantial new custom builds — it looks and feels older and more established than most of coastal Broward.

Water frontage comes in three forms here and they price very differently: lakefront on North or South Lake, Intracoastal frontage on the eastern edge, and interior dry lots. Intracoastal homes carry the deepest dockage and the highest prices; lakefront gives you the view and the setting without an ocean-going slip.

Boaters should check the route carefully. Access from Hollywood Lakes runs through the Intracoastal, with the nearest ocean outlets at Port Everglades to the north and Haulover to the south — both a longer run than from Fort Lauderdale, and fixed bridges govern air draft along the way.

Day to day, the draw is the location: a short walk or bike to the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, the North Beach area and downtown Hollywood's restaurants and ArtsPark, with both Fort Lauderdale and Aventura within about twenty minutes. On the older homes, verify permit history — a lot of 1920s houses here have been added to over the decades, not always with paperwork.
